We’re happy to announce that one of the most requested feature – Export to CSV is now available for all users.
The export icon is available at the bottom of the Projects, Tasks and Time & Money pages (table view).
The functionality is similar to the Printer-friendly view, which means that you can search and filter your data prior to the export.

It’s a common situation when you create a project, but are not directly involved with it (e.g. you’re not its manager or an assignee for any of the tasks).
At the same time you want to be notified about any significant changes in this project or its tasks.
Think of a senior manager who created a project and wants to closely monitor its status.
To facilitate this workflow we added another option to the User Preference page, where you can choose to be notified by email whenever
there are significant changes in any project you’ve created.
Many collaboration experts strongly believe that the letter “P” in the PM abbreviation stands for “People” and promote Social Project Management as one of the most important concepts of successful project management. And we at Birdview Projects tend to agree with it.
No fancy methodology or PMP certification can help your project if there is no synergy within your team. People on the front lines are responsible for project’s success or failure. It’s not enough just to have the right people. They need to talk to each other, they need to interact and socialize.
That’s right – socialize! That’s the secret sauce that makes good teams great and promising projects hugely successful. When people chat and have fun together – they get to know each other much better and learn each other’s strengths and weaknesses, which help tackle whatever work issues the team encounters along the road.
Normally, the ever present “water cooler” is a place-of-choice. But what about virtual and remotely distributed teams? What can they do to capitalize on benefits of social project management?
Well, we just built a tool for this!
This new module allows team members to get together and discuss any topics they want: congratulate Janet on her newborn baby-girl, choose a theme for a Christmas party, vote for the cutest pet, select a new JavaScript framework for the upcoming project – the possibilities are endless.
We made a conscious decision to create Watercooler as a company-wide feature instead of being project specific to encourage and promote non-work related communications within a team.

While working on a new exciting major upgrade code-named “Watercooler”, we also made a minor change to the picture preview functionality.
Now when you click on the picture link anywhere in the application (Files section, history, etc) – a preview will be shown immediately,
as opposed to the download process that would start by default in the past.

Over the last few months there have been multiple requests to allow filtering of tasks by project custom fields. So now we are ready to present this feature along with an improved way to create new filters (views).
Let’s use an example when you created a custom field called “Location” for your projects, and now you want to see all active tasks belonging to the projects located in London.
Here is what you need to do…
First, go to the Tasks tab. Then at the top of the saved filters (we call them “views”) and reports list you’ll see the “Create new view” item.
Click on it and a filter setup panel appears. Choose your filter conditions: Project Location = London and Tasks Status is not Done.
That’s it – the results will be shown below the filter panel in real time!
After you’re done, just save your filter and quickly access in the future.
We are grateful to our customers for their great UI feedback and suggestions on how to improve Birdview Projects. Filtering tasks by custom properties is indeed a great feature! We are waiting for the new ideas. Let’s make Birdview Projects even better!
A new feature was added to Birdview Projects – an ability to preview pictures attached to projects or tasks.
Now, if your project or task has any pictures attached to it, you see the “Preview pictures” link at the Files section:
Once clicked, a preview window will display all available pictures along with thumbnails. You can download any of the pictures using the direct link.
We’re using the really cool Fotorama gallery by Artem Polikarpov to render the preview.
Finally, the long-awaited “E-mail notifications” feature has been released.
A new set of options has been added to the “Preference” page:

Enabling the “new tasks and projects I’m involved in” checkbox will cause the system to send you emails for the following events:
The “important changes to my tasks and projects” option is triggered when:
Please note that e-mail notifications won’t be sent to a person who made the changes, since we assume that this person already know what he did.
If you have the “upcoming deadlines X days prior” enabled, then you’ll be notified X days before the end date of each task assigned to you.
“Combine notifications into groups sent out every X hours” is a great feature for those who receive a lot of notifications. You can set it up to receive digest of all events only once or twice a day.
And the “Never e-mail me on weekends” option is hopefully self-explanatory.

Yet another minor update has been pushed out today.
In addition to some minor bug fixes and technical back-log items, the following changes have made the list:
All completed tasks are now shown as crossed-out at the side bar.
This little change makes a big difference, by allowing you to quickly understand what’s going on without spending too much time reading all details.
Based on a number of requests we added ability to switch UI language right from the application, without changing browser settings.
This can be done from the User Preference / Account info screen:
We also added a number of new tool-tips that should help new users with their on-boarding experience.

Another update to Birdview Projects was released this Monday (according to our “Never release on Friday” rule).
Here are the key changes:
This feature was introduced to help with the default user avatars – see below, as well as to act as a basis for future localizations. Certain languages (like Polish, Arabic, Portuguese, etc) have grammatical genders and we want to be able to accommodate this when Birdview Projects is translated into other languages.
When a brand new user is created, by default we randomly generate his or her picture. If the gender field is filled out, then either male of female silhouette is chosen.
The really cool trick can be seen with the Russian localization, where the gender is automatically detected based on the person’s name.
